I didn’t understand or truly embody the power of the Arts until joining Pulse Studios in Calgary. It awakened something inside me, an energy that had been silenced by the standardized and methodical world we live in. Dance gave me the opportunity to embrace a new kind of flow - my inner creative flow. And I couldn’t recommend it more! Tapping into your inner creative will allow you to access unique abilities you didn’t know you had.
Our day to day is predominantly run by the left side of our brain, where we use logic and order to drive our decisions. Dance taps into the right side of the brain – the creative, spontaneous, and intuitive side of us. You might think you’re not a creative person, but what if you changed your perspective and what creative meant and allowed the right side of your brain to lead you for just a little bit.
Personally, I never identified myself as a creative person. For years I would tell people I’m not creative because I didn’t draw, or paint, or sing, or perform. I wasn’t into the arts, not in a participatory level anyway.
How I identified and defined creativity changed when I started to dance. It helped me begin to unlock the chains that kept me confined to how I “should” be and started to flow into the freedom of who I was. I know this sounds pretty deep – Does dance really have this kind of power?
Yes! Dance has the power to do whatever you want it to. It will give you what you need, if you allow it. Maybe the studio becomes a space where you let loose and have fun. Perhaps you make a new life long friend. Or maybe you have an experience like mine where you reconnect to a part of yourself that’s been hidden beneath the surface. I invite you to take a class (or three or four) and wake up the creative energy inside you, you’ll never know where it could take you.
