PULSE Studios continues to be a powerhouse of Hip Hop culture in Calgary, fostering an inspiring community of talented dancers who are not only shaping the local dance scene but also making waves on the global stage. Among these standouts are PULSE MVPs who exemplify the spirit of innovation, resilience, and dedication. From battling and teaching to coaching and performing, their stories are a testament to the power of dance in connecting communities and inspiring the next generation. Let’s dive into the journeys of Lady C, Frescy, Siah, and Born2Boogie, who are leaving their mark in unique and meaningful ways.
Lady C puts Calgary on the map with her moves and music.
Caroline “Lady C” Fraser is a dancer, battler, teacher, adjudicator, and singer who continues to make waves wherever she goes. Before her meteoric rise in the global Hip Hop community, she started in Calgary, building the Hip Hop dance scene with Tara in the early days of PULSE.
In our interview for Lady C Holds it Down for Women in Hip Hop, we learned of her dance origins, her album "CEE," and how she navigates being a female dancer in a male-dominated culture. Since then, she has continued to put Calgary on the map with numerous high-profile dance events, from battling in Groove N Move (Switzerland) to judging for House of Dance (Minnesota) and Soul Cypher (Netherlands). She was also featured on the dance competition reality show, Revolution, in Montreal, where she showcased her moves and original music on live TV. On top of all this, she won another Dora Award for her solo work, Cymatix, now totalling 3 wins for the prestigious award.
She is one of the inaugural PULSE MVPs for her authentic approach to Hip Hop and the culture, multi-dimensional creativity, and expansion in representing Calgary and PULSE on a global scale.
Under the moniker, CEE, her album by the same name is on sale on Apple Music and Spotify. Want an autographed vinyl of her music? Visit PULSE Studios to get yours today for only $25! (make sure you leave a little sticky note for her to who to sign it for).
Frescy brings his worldly adventures back to PULSE.
We first introduced Ryan “Frescy” Everett back in 2024 in Frescy’s Breaking Journey to Self-Discovery, talking Breaking, its parallels to sports, and his upcoming dance journey in Europe.
Back from his epic adventure, Frescy brings newfound inspiration and worldly perspective home. He's one of PULSE's favourite teachers. He shares his knowledge and experience with new and returning students through Breaking, Hip Hop, and choreography. He still performs on stage, participating in Tara’s choreography at the Fluid Fest last November and Team Mayhem at the Calgary Hip Hop and Streetdance Festival. Last October, he was invited to Texas for a dance project with the prolific Bboy, YNOT. Incorporating a multi-disciplined approach, Frescy collaborated with Ballet dancers and original music from YNOT himself.
Frescy also won the Breaking category at last year’s CHHSDF, besting his brother, Eli, in the finals.
As an MVP, Frescy embodies PULSE's best values. His vibe and energy invite new opportunities, battles, and performances. Whether you catch him on stage, at the studio, or in the Calgary dance community, he is always positive, respectful, and strives for greatness.
What’s next for Frescy? He’s still on the ascent with teaching, battling, performing, and embodying proper Bboy values. Frescy intends to battle with Siah and Jordan in a PULSE MVP collaboration for the next One for the City battle on January 18 in Edmonton. Look out for this star in one of Calgary’s many dance events in 2025!
Siah evolves to become a dedicated dance coach.
Up next, we catch up with Josiah “Bboy Siahnara” Go. In Josiah ‘Siahnara’ Go: PULSE MVP and Red Bull’s BC One Calgary Champion, we celebrated his recent win in the prestigious Red Bull BC One Battle. We also discussed his new Bboy program, SYL, at PULSE.
The program has been flourishing. Siah teaches them the aspects of battles, with some of them making it very far in the Youth categories in last year’s Calgary Hip Hop and Streetdance Festival.
Unlike the other PULSE MVPs, Siah’s life experiences and growth have inspired him to focus on his local community and pass down his wisdom as a dedicated dance coach. His competition days may be behind him, but he has a lot to offer to the next generation with his passion and dedication. For 2025, Siah wants to focus on helping kids who are eager to excel in their dance journey.
Since graduating high school, Siah has only taught for PULSE and will continue to build the Calgary Hip Hop community with his passion for his craft. This is what makes him a PULSE MVP.
Born2Boogie represents PULSE as he battles the world.
Finally, we have one of PULSE’s brightest stars and battlers, Jordan “Born2Boogie” Bailey. Since we last checked on him in A Jabbawockeez Experience Sparks Clarity to Born2Boogie's Path, Jordan has been on a mission to represent Calgary in every high-profile battle he could reach. He battled in the open styles battle, One for the City, in Edmonton, the Vancouver Street Dance Festival, and Jack of all Trades (JOAT) in Montreal. These battles were very international. Dancers came from all over the world, from LA, NY, and Mexico to the Netherlands, Japan, Thailand, and Korea.
Outside of the battling, Born2Boogie is currently working with PULSE’s Beast Machine, teaching Popping, choreography, and the art of freestyling. In between, he continues to train on his own and with his community as he prepares for another world battle tour in 2025.
He has his sights set on Montreal, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York to compete in more battles, make connections, and represent Calgary in its best light.
Born2Boogie’s Cinderella-like story is what makes him a PULSE MVP. He started his dance journey at PULSE and then branched off on his own to develop his skills. Now at the peak of his powers, he’s back at PULSE, excited to travel the world to showcase his talents like his fellow MVPs.
The journeys of Lady C, Frescy, Siah, and Born2Boogie illustrate the diversity and strength within Calgary’s Hip Hop dance community, all nurtured by the vibrant culture at PULSE Studios. Whether it’s Lady C’s international recognition, Frescy’s dynamic teaching and battling, Siah’s commitment to mentoring the next generation, or Born2Boogie’s relentless pursuit of global representation, these MVPs shine as examples of what dedication, passion, and creativity can achieve. As they continue to push boundaries, they not only elevate Calgary on the world stage but also inspire countless others to follow their lead. Keep an eye on these incredible artists as they continue to make history in 2025 and beyond!
